Sean O’Rourke

Sean O’Rourke is a social scientist and conservationist who works with land-embedded communities in British Columbia and Alberta to plan environmental stewardship initiatives and protect old-growth forests and other endangered ecosystems. Though originally from Vancouver, Sean grew up in the Prairies and spent many years working throughout the tree-less Arctic as an archaeologist before moving back to BC. He became interested in BC’s giant trees while living in Prince George and exploring the region’s spectacular Inland Rainforest. Since relocating to the province’s southern coast, Sean has become particularly interested in learning about and documenting the lesser-known deciduous trees of this area, such as the Lower Fraser’s record-breaking Black cottonwoods. He hopes to see more of these under-appreciated tree species added in the Registry in the future.
